The pair announced their engagement to Woman’s Day. Callea said the proposal was a casual domestic affair:

“We were sitting on the couch and I was on my second scotch and Tim was on his first white wine and we made the decision there and then,” he told the magazine.

The pair are planning a ceremony in New Zealand, where same sex marriage is legally recognized. Australian Marriage Equality national director Rodney Croome said it is a pity that the couple’s union couldn’t take place in their home country:

“It’s wonderful that Anthony and Tim have decided to tie the knot but frustrating that they have to travel to New Zealand to do it and that their vows won’t be recognised when they return.”

The pair have been met with widespread congratulations, and both have taken to Twitter to express their gratitude.
