A record number of people attended the Bears latest Den Night on Saturday March 27, which was also a fundraiser for Perth’s homeless GLBTIQ youth.
Including all promised donations the night raised $5,150. The funds raised will go to Perth Inner City Youth Services (PICYS) and help provide young people in need with food, medical expenses and assistance with education costs.
Approximately 137 people were at Loton Park to enjoy a sausage sizzle, ‘chase the bear’ and a raffle which included prizes worth over $1,300.
Bears Perth President, Paul Hayter, said the night was a fantastic success and had special significance as it was the first time ever women were permitted to attend a Bears’ Den Night.
‘It was the first time Bears have had an inclusive event and it was great- the girls loved it,’ he said.
The night was so well received, Bears Perth are hoping to make the fundraiser an annual event, possibly raising money for a different charity or group each year.
