Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has been announced in the leading role of Nala, opposite Donald Glover’s Simba in the 2019 release.

Comedian and American Horror Story star Billy Eichner will become the wise-cracking meerkat Timon, with Seth Rogen as his companion Pumbaa.

James Earl Jones will return as Mufasa, the doomed king of The Pride Lands, and talk-show host John Oliver will take on the role of his snooty advisor Toucan, Zazu.

Also joining the cast will be 12 Years A Slave‘s Chiwitel Ejiofor as Scar, and comics Eric Andre and Keegan-Michael Key as hyenas Azizi and Kamari with actor Florence Kasumba leading the pack as Shenzi.

The Lion King is due to be released in July 2019.
