Bob Brown Resigns

Federal Greens leader Bob Brown has resigned as leader of the Australian Greens and will be leaving the Senate in coming months. Brown has been one of the highest profile openly gay parliamentarians during his sixteen years in office.

Greens and parliamentary colleagues were told this morning. So far Senator Brown has not given a reason for his decision publicly, simply saying that although happy to be going he was sad to leave and that

‘It is prime time to hand over the reins.’

Brown will be replaced as federal Greens leader by Christine Milne.

Western Australian Senator Scott Ludlum praised the outgoing leader via his Twitter account posting,
