Burn the Floor

The hit show ‘Burn the Floor’ has been touring the world, constantly changing and being updated to showcase the talents of its amazing cast of dancers.

After winning the third season of ‘So You Think You Can Dance Australia’, Robbie Kmetoni jumped on board and has been having the time of his life. Robbie took a moment out their hardcore rehearsals to give an insight to life on the road.

When did you join the show?

I joined straight after I finished ‘So You Think You Can Dance – Australia’, so I’ve been here for nearly three and half years. It’s been amazing, I couldn’t have expected it to be anything more than what I’m going through right now, so I’m very grateful and fortunate for this opportunity.

How would you describe the show?

It’s everything; it’s extremely sexy and very sensual! Latin in ballroom is all about being sensual, and being involved with your partner – being one. It’s very energetic and you have 20 dancers on stage giving you everything that they’ve got! Plus we have two singers, plus a percussionist and a drummer – it’s a very exciting show.

How do make sure you have enough energy for the show?

We eat so much! I’m Italian, so I’m allowed all the carbs. Everyone here eats a lot, after the show your adrenalin is still running for about two hours so that’s the best time to eat before a good sleep. In the morning we do a one hour warm up, then we do sit ups and push up, cardio, gym workouts. It’s an important aspect for this show; you need to have a hot body! This job is, a dream come true.

What’s life on the road like?

When I first left I was only 18 so I got a bit homesick, but then I said to myself “Robbie, You’re in London – get over it”. Once I got to know everyone else in the cast it became like we are one big family and one big party. We all go out together on our night off; everyone in the cast is extremely young and fun. Nightclubs know when the Burn the Floor crew is coming.

Where has the show taken you?

We were in London, we did a nine month tour of the USA, we’ve done a tour of Holland, we went to China, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, we’ve been around Australia. South Africa was one of my favourites – it’s been amazing.

‘Burn the Floor’ is at the Regal Theatre from Thursday April 10 until Saturday April 26. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
