Actor Claudia Karvan delivered a powerful message of support for transgender youth and their families while accepting a Logie Award on Sunday night.
Karvan won the Silver Logie for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role in Homebodies.
Produced by SBS, Homebodies was released as a series of 10-minute web episodes and later presented as a feature-length television production.
The series follows Darcy, a young trans man who is forced to confront his past when he returns to the small rural town where he grew up. Claudia Karvan plays his mother, Nora, alongside Luke Wiltshire. The series was created and written by AP Pobjoy.
“Wow, I came to my first Logies 25 years ago. I’ve won a few of these, and without throwing shade on any of my previous wins, this one feels like the most significant and important one,” Karvan said. “It’s the first trans story at the Logies, low-budget, supported by SBS Digital Originals.”
Karvan said it was a privilege to help bring the experiences of transgender youth and their families to the screen.
“It was a privilege to bring Nora to life, and I’m informed by these authentic voices. May all parents of trans kids and trans kids feel seen and heard,” she said.
