Communicare Helping Playful Dads

According to Martine Pitt, CEO of Communicare, dads are taking a more active role in the upbringing of their children and the Armadale Playmobile is proving to be a popular activity for them.

Communicare in conjunction with the Armadale Community Family Centre run the free Playmobile service, which gives parents the opportunity to come along and play with toys and sports equipment in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

‘Dads find the flexibility and casual atmosphere of an outdoor play environment more attractive than a standard playgroup,’ says Sarah Greenwood, Project Development Officer at Armadale Community Family Centre.

‘There is no need to provide personal details or commit to attending on a set day each week.’

Ms Pitt says many gay and lesbian parents access Communicare services and that gay dads are most welcome to come along and use the Playmobile.

‘We have also previously held a dad’s playgroup on Saturdays in Cannington and we would think about starting that up again if there was enough interest,’ she said.

The Playmobile is at Memorial Park in Armadale Wednesday to Friday during school terms and at Armadale Community Health Service on Tuesday mornings.

For more information on the Playmobile, contact Sarah Greenwood at the Armadale Community Family Centre on 9497 4794. To find out about other services provided by Communicare, contact 9251 5777 or visit their website: www.communicare.org.au.
