Daniel Andrews predicted to retain government in Victoria with increased majority

The Andrews Labor government is expected to be re-elected in Victoria with an increased majority. Just over an hour into counting the ABC’s election analyst Antony Green declared that Labor was going to have an impressive win.

Exit polls on election day were in line with opinion polls released late in the week that showed Labor having a commanding lead over the Liberal-National coalition 55-45.

The Labor campaign had promised big spending on construction and infrastructure projects including an ambitious rail plan to create railways connections around outer suburbs.

The opposition had campaign against the Safe Schools program and argued that there was a significant law and order issue in the state, but they failed to get voter’s attention.

Liberal leader Matthew Guy had predicted that he would take several seats of the Labor party, but as the figures rolled in on Saturday night it was quickly shown that his dream was not going to come true.
