On Mondays we check out the latest music that’s got our attention.
This week we take a listen to new tracks from Duran Duran, Rogue Traders, Icona Pop, Tricky, plus Johnny Depp and Imelda May.
Duran Duran featuring Nile Rodgers – Free to Love
Nile Rodgers produced some of the band’s biggest hits in 1980s – around the same time he also created huge selling tunes David Bowie, Madonna, INXS, and Diana Ross. Now they’ve reunited for this new tune. No word yet if this is just a stand alone single, or a new album is one the way.
Duran Duran’s sixteenth album Dance Macabre was released in 2023. It featured new tunes, covers of songs by Talking Heads, E.L.O., Billie Eilish, Cerrone and others, alongside recordings of some of the band’s previous Bsides and album tracks.
Rogue Traders – Animals
Australia’s Rogue Traders share another new tune, and it’s a banger. The video uses footage from the 1979 film Warriors. It starred actor Michael Beck who went on to star opposite Oliva Newton-John in Xanadu the following year. This is the fourth single lifted from upcoming album Midnight Alarms.
Icona Pop – Dance to This
Icona Pop will have a new album Ritual out on 14 August. The dup are best known for their 2012 hit I Love It.
Tricky feat. Marta Złakowska – Out of Place
He’s just announced new album Different When It’s Silent is on its way. Tricky’s last album was 2020’s Fall to Pieces. Since then he’s put out two other records under different monikers. In 2021 he released a self-titled record as Lonley Guest, and in 2024 released Fifteen Days as Theis Thaws. Tricky first came to prominence on early albums by Massive Attack before putting out solo works.
Johnny Depp & Imelda May – Haunted
This tune was originally a duet between The Pogues front man Shane McGowan and Sinead O’Connor. Two artists sadly no longer with us. This is from a forthcoming tribute album to McGowan which will feature recordings by Bruce Springsteen, David gray, Primal Scream, Steve Earle, Jesus and Mary Chain, Tom Waits and others. The album will also feature a recording from Moya Brennan who passed away earlier this month, she previously collaborated with McGowan on the stunningly beautiful tune You’re The One.
