Faces For Freedom 4 Families For Freedom

After the success of Freedom Centre’s Faces for Freedom project we have made our Human Rights Consultation submission. But Faces for Freedom will not come to an end there – Freedom Centre has many plans for future phases of the project. It was such an inspiration to the community that we have been asked to support the WA National Day of Action event, ‘Families for Freedom’.

Faces for Freedom (FFF) was the Freedom Centre’s project for IDAHo (International Day Against Homophobia) to inform Freedom Centre’s Submission to the National Human Rights Consultation. We were hoping to get 200 submissions to FFF and we surpassed our goal with a total of 217 submissions!! The Freedom Centre’s National Human Rights Consultation Submission can be found at www.facesforfreedom.blogspot.com .

After the success of the project, all of us in the Freedom Centre community had plenty of ideas for how we could evolve the Faces for Freedom project, but one is coming up very soon! The second phase of FFF will be in support of the National Day of Action (NDA) initiatives – coordinated by Gay And Lesbian Equality (GALE), Cross Campus Queer Network (CCQN) and other supporting WA Community Groups. GALE and Co. have two events planned for NDA – a Community Forum on Relationship Recognition on August 1st at UWA and a Community Day of Action called Families for Freedom on Sunday 16th August.

Families for Freedom will be a community event for us to voice our support for relationship recognition. There will be entertainment, speakers, and a rainbow theme – so come armed with rainbow umbrellas & flags and don your favourite rainbow outfits and accessories! There will be a space for the community to make the Faces for Freedom submissions so come with your ideas and signs for your statement in support of relationship recognition.

For anyone who doesn’t know the drill for FFF – you can have your say by submitting a photo of yourself holding a sign that makes a statement for relationship recognition rights in WA and Australia.

So log on to www.facesforfreedom.blogspot.com, www.freedom.org.au and www.families4freedom.info to find out more about Faces for Freedom and the WA National Day of Action events!
