Feels are ready to bring something different to ART BALL 2019

ART BALL 2019 is just around the corner, ready to electrify audiences with a killer line-up of incredible local and national talents.

Perth’s rising-star music duo Feels will be joining this year’s exciting line-up at the highly anticipated event at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

We caught up with Elise and Rosie for a chat about their set, their love of art and collaborating with fellow local ZAN on one of our favourite tracks of 2018.

“I’d written this little arpeggiated synth line and was playing around with that in the program I use to write, chucked a drum beat over the top of it,” Rosie says of their track Assemble.

“Originally it was just going to be an instrumental but I think because it had a bit more of a hip-hop influence, but we’d just met ZAN at the time and decided it might be a good fit for them… and it was!”

“ZAN sent back this demo which was incredible and we just went from there. We really love collaborating with ZAN, their music is really incredible,” says Elise.

The duo tell OUTinPerth they’ve been making music together for a long time, with their collaborations tracking back to early high school.

“When we were 14 we met at an after school percussion program and we were drumming in a drum circle. Rosie played a really cool hand drumming solo, then I played a really cool hand drumming solo and we gave each other the nod,” Elise laughs, “We’ve been making music ever since!”

“We went to different schools but we’d meet up to continue to write music,” Rosie adds.

“When we finished [university] we started meeting up on a more official basis to sit down and write music together once a week, and that’s when the project was born and we decided to put a name on it.”

The pair are both avid supporters of the local arts scene, and say they are excited to be part of ART BALL’s mission to celebrate our state’s art gallery.

“Before pursuing Feels and other creative work I did a lot of work with art-related sound design – so I’m quite into it myself. I’m a really big supporter of things going on in the arts world locally, broader than music,” Elise explains.

“I think it’s really important also to collaborate with other artists and share other art forms and ideas.”

Elise and Rosie didn’t want to spoil any surprises, but they have promised something a little out of the ordinary in theme with the fabulous event.

“It definitely feels like outside of the norm of what we normally do, you know it’s not a club or a pub or an outside venue or a festival. Having such an iconic venue of Perth is really great as local artists,” Rosie says.

“I think that is has got that creative spin to it inspires us to bring something a little different to the night and know what we’re playing to a really open audience that may be ready to see something a bit different.”

ART BALL will be at the Art Gallery of Western Australia on Saturday 25th May. For tickets and more information head to artball.com.au
