Fringe Picks | Shows we're dying to see

Fringe World starts on Friday with hundreds of shows taking over the city for the next four weeks, we’ve sorted through the program, analysed all the offering and put together some suggestions of which shows you might want to put at the top of your ‘must see’ list.

Here’s five shows we’re dying to see.

RAILED

The kings of narrative circus are back. From the creators of the smash hit Elixir (winner of Best Circus and physical theatre Award at Adelaide Fringe 2018), comes an all-new acrobatic adventure. Last year we loved Elixr which was filled with acrobatic feats, outstanding abs, and so much hilarity. We gave it a 5 star review.

This year the team have taken on a western theme, ye-ha! Leigh Andrew Hill chatted with Thomas Gorham from Head First Acrobats, the group behind the show, for the cover story of our December edition.

Railed will be in The West Australian Spiegeltent in the Pleasure Garden from January 22nd to February 10th 2019.

ANOTHER NIGHT AT THE MUSICALS

Dubbed the “Ebony and Ivory of drag” by the Australian press, Olivier winning star of La Clique & La Soiree; Le Gateau Chocolat and Queen of the Alternative Drag scene, Jonny Woo, return for Another Night at the Musicals.

Every show Le Gateau Chocolat has done in the past has been a magical experience, in his collaboration with Jonny Woo the pair celebrate and poke fun of their favourite songs from musical theatre. Now their back to recreate and reimagine more musicals! In the past we’ve given this musical massacring duo five stars for their brilliant performance.

Another Night at the Musicals is on from 29th January – 10th February.

LITTLE DEATH CLUB
The darkest, funniest and most debauched kabarett club this side of Berlin! Hosted by the deliciously salacious, utterly hilarious, uber-award-winning Queen of Weimar punk Kabarett, Bernie Dieter.

It started off as a late night show here in Perth, now it’s travelled the globe, been to the Edinburgh Fringe and returned as a fully fledged prime time program. Mistress of Mayhem Bernie Dieter is on the front cover the February edition of OUTinPerth and she told us her show is the one where all the freaks are welcome.

Join this travelling family of misfits, miscreants and fantastic freaks including 7ft GLAMONSTER Gingzilla, fire-eating bearded lady bombshell Lolo Brow, gender-bending aerial contortionist Beau Sargent (La Soiree) and psycho siren Leah Shelton for a wild night.

Little Death Club is The Edith Speigeltent is Yagan Square from 18th January – 2nd February.

BLANC DE BLANC

By popular demand, the hit show from the acclaimed creative minds behind Madonna’s Rebel Heart tour, returns to Perth! We caught this show at The Regal Theatre a few years ago but can’t wait to see it in Fringe World, where is will be much more upclose.

We gave it five stars the last time we saw it and called it an “legant, debaucherous and entirely enthralling ode to champagne.”

Blanc de Blanc is at a new venue in Northbridge, The Pear Tree on William Street, it’s on from 18th January all the way through to 2nd March.

MACHE: REPOSE

The critically acclaimed Mâché series has taken audiences through an exploration of colour, sound, and surrealist drag art. Join the Messers once again on the latest instalment of this series. Repose; nothing is impossible in your dreams.

Created by local avant-garde drag monster Ginava, this show features a cast of intriguing performers. Its guaranteed to be odd, quirky and have amazing costumes.

Mache Repose is at De Parel Speigeltent in The Pleasure Garden from 18-25 January.
