In the mid-1980s, George Michael launched his solo career following the break-up of Wham!, achieving a level of success that made him one of the defining pop stars of the decade.
His debut solo album, Faith, became one of the era’s landmark releases, producing a string of hit singles including “Faith”, “Father Figure”, “One More Try”, “Monkey”, “Hard Day”, “Kissing a Fool” and “I Want Your Sex”.
Released at the height of the MTV era, the album was accompanied by a series of iconic music videos that helped cement Michael’s image, complete with designer stubble, blue jeans, a crucifix earring, carefully styled hair and a black leather jacket.
Now, newly restored concert footage from the tour that followed the album’s release, along with previously unseen material, will bring that period back to cinema screens.
Filmed over two nights in Paris in 1988, the concert film captures Michael at the height of his success. It has been directed by longtime collaborators, Andy Morahan and David Austin, using recently rediscovered footage from 14 cameras positioned throughout the venue.
The restored release showcases Michael’s stage presence and performance style during one of the most successful periods of his career.
The film will be in cinemas from 6 November.
