The recreation of the 1998 favourite stars Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei as the titular character, a young woman who disguises herself as a man to join the military and bring honour to her family.

The news follows the announcement that Halle Bailey has been cast as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming The Little Mermaid remake – sparking outrage and racist comments online from fans for the casting of an African-American actor as the fictional mermaid.

Mulan will follow live-action recreations of The Little Mermaid and The Lion King, with remakes of Pinocchio and The Sword in the Stone also on the horizon.

Check out the teaser trailer for Mulan below.
