Good Morning America Host Comes Out

GOOD MORNING AMERICA - Anchor Robin Roberts. GM11  (ABC/Donna Svennevik)Robin Roberts, the host of ‘Good Morning America’ has publicly acknowledged her girlfriend for the first time and revealed that she is a lesbian.

Roberts posted a note to her Facebook page thanking her fans, colleagues and family for their support during the last year as she recovered from breast cancer and a bone marrow transplant. In the note the TV presenter also acknowledged her girlfriend Amber Laign.

“I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.’ the TV presenter wrote.

Roberts hosts the breakfast ABC (USA) TV show ‘Good Morning America’ alongside George Stephanopoulos. Since the two have been at the helm of the show it has become the most popular breakfast news program in America beating NBC’s ‘Today’ show in the ratings wars.

In 2007 the presenter was treated for breast cancer. Last year she documented her treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome, a blood and bone marrow disorder.  On the day that Roberts went public with her illness bone marrow registry organsiation ‘Be The Match’ recorded a 1800% increase in donor applications. In February 2013 Roberts returned to GMA after receiving life saving treatment.
