Human Rights Commissioner Discusses LGBT Rights

Living Proud met with Federal Human Rights Commissioner Tim Wilson and his Senior Policy Advisers last month at Lotteries House.

As the formal Commission spokesperson for sexual orientation, gender identity and intersex (SOGII) human rights, Commissioner Wilson sought consultation around what is being done, and what more should be done, to promote a culture of respect for SOGII rights, at both a West Australian and National level.

Discussions topics included were, religious freedoms and human rights, discrimination, the deficit in skilled surgeons in Australia, surrogacy and parenting Laws, lack of services in rural areas, and translating policy into inclusion.

Living Proud said they were pleased to have such meaningful contributions from GRAI , Playgroups with Pride, True Colours, WA AIDS Council and the Chameleon Society of WA, describing the level and diversity of the content of the discussion as ‘inspiring’.
