Roger Allam and Ian McKellen star in Frank and Percy, a film about finding love later in life and discovering it is never too late to be who you truly are.
The two actors deliver charming performances as older gentlemen who form an unexpected connection while walking their dogs on Hampstead Heath.
The cast also includes Stephen Fry, Joanna Lumley, Ncuti Gatwa, Derek Jacobi, Jessica Gunning, Peter Davison, Felicity Kendal, Wayne Sleep, Hugh Skinner, Rob Brydon, Sheila Hancock and Siân Phillips.
The film will have its premiere at the 70th BFI London Film Festival on 13 October 2026. Australian audiences will get their first opportunity to see it when it screens as part of the Russell Hobbs British Film Festival 2026.
The film is based on the play of the same name by Ben Weatherill. Allam and McKellen are reprising their roles from the stage production, which premiered in 2023 before transferring to the National Theatre the following year.
The film has been adapted for the screen by award-winning screenwriter Martin Sherman (Mrs Henderson Presents, Bent) and directed by film and theatre director Sean Mathias.
Frank and Percy is one of 36 films featured in the 2026 Russell Hobbs British Film Festival. This year’s line-up will screen from 5 November to 6 December at Palace Cinemas Raine Square, Luna Cinemas Leederville, Luna on SX and Windsor Cinema.
