A British student was shocked to find a photograph she took for a school assignment was being used by a far right Italian political party to campaign against transgender education in schools.
Seventeen year old Rose Morelli who took the photo of her friend Alex Elliot, has told Pink News that it was “hugely distressing” to see the her image being used by an Italian political party. The student is now looking into what legal action can be taken.
Morelli created the image for an art project with help from her friend. The pair had been inspired to act following the death of US trans teenager Leah Alcorn. Alcorn’s death drew worldwide attention the mental health needs of people who are transgender.
The political group, Fratelli d’Italia, is opposed to same sex marriage, civil unions and teaching about transgender people in schools.
