Williamson, who wrote classic patriotic song True Blue, has a long history of writing songs about social issues. He previously tackled environmental issues with Rip, Rip, Woodchip and indigenous rights with Raining on the Rock.

Now he’s released Love Is The Word which finds Williamson railing against the lack of love in the world, expressing his feelings towards marriage equality and the ongoing debate about it.

Speaking about the new tune Williamson said it saddened him that nationalism was on the rise in Australia.

“I feel very sad for my grandkids while there is a lack of love for the earth in the world. Hate and extreme nationalism are on the increase.” Williamson said.

It’s not the first time Williamson has shown his support for marriage equality, he previously teamed up with Beccy Cole for It’s All About Love.

Check out the new tune.
