Kitsch-enette

This you have to see! Australia has a deep-rooted, almost incestuous, love of all things camp and kitsch and Danie Mellor is plumbing the depths of this not so secret love in his new show The Great Creative Golden Age of Long Ago and Here and Now. Long title, amazing work. Mellor combines Western influences with his Indigenous heritage, creating a pastiche of pop culture iconography imbued with Australiana via Wedgewood and old school sensibility. His work is thought provoking yet deeply humourous. Not to be missed, Mellor’s bold new exhibition appears at East Perth’s Holmes à Court Gallery until October 12.
