Li Huanwu, the grandson of Lee Kuan Yew, weds his partner

Li Huanwu, the grandson of Singapore’s founder Lee Kuan Yew, and the nephew of current Prime Minister Lee Hsian Loong, has wed his longtime partner Heng Yiriu.

The couple announced their nuptials had taken place in South Africa, where they had been on holiday. The pair a prominent couple in Singapore where homosexuality remains illegal with colonial era British laws remaining in place.

“Today I marry my soul mate. Looking forward to a lifetime of moments like this with @hero.unit.” Li posted to his Instagram page tagging his husband.

The couple publicly came out last year, just ahead of the annual pink dot celebrations, which draw attention to the lack of rights for LGBTI people in Singapore.
