Liberal Party to front Anti-Discrimination Tribunal in Tasmania

Tasmanian woman, Martine Delaney has lodged a complaint against the Tasmanian Liberal Party alleging it incited hatred by declaring during last year’s state election that same-sex marriage was socially destructive. The case had been dismissed by the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Sarah Bolt, however the State’s Anti-Discrimination Tribunal this week overturned her decision.

The Anti-Discrimination Commissioner will now investigate the case to decide whether Tasmania’s incitement-to-hatred laws have been breached. A similar case launched by Ms Delaney against the Exclusive Brethren has been referred to the Tribunal for a full hearing.
