Madley Croft from The xx has spoken about her hope that Australians will vote ‘Yes’ in the marriage postal survey.

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald Croft said she hoped people would be supportive of changing the marriage laws.

“I heard that gay marriage is going up for a postal vote in Australia, which I find really harsh,” Croft said. “Every time I’ve come to Australia, I’ve always thought it was very open, warm and progressive. It’s a matter really close to my heart.”

Croft, who is engaged to her artist girlfriend Hannah Marshall, said it was important that people’s relationships were recognised.

“It’s a recognition thing,” she said. “Everybody should have the right to be able to get married if they want to make that commitment. For so many people in the world, you’re made to feel abnormal.”

The band will be touring Australia in January 2018, but have only announced dates on the east coast of Australia. During their US tour the band have been donating a portion of their ticket sales to local LGBTI youth groups.
