Ncuti Gatwa has hosted the final episode of the first season of Saturday Night Like UK, joking during his opening monologue that he is the first Black, Queer and Scottish person to host the show.
Gatwa follows in the footsteps of Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Jack Whitehall, Nicola Coughlan, Aimee Lou Wood and Hannah Waddingham.
His opening also addressed his departure from the iconic television series Doctor Who. The final episode of the show saw the character regenerate into Billie Piper. “I don’t understand it either.” Gatwa quipped.
While many people were skeptical that a British version of the long-running American comedy program would work, it’s had good reviews and solid audiences.
The show has poked fun at British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, gives us the best impression of Princess Diana of all time, and in it’s latest episode made fun of documentary maker Louis Theroux.
A second series of 12 episodes has been ordered and will go to air later this year and run into 2027. It’s not know yet if the cast of Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young will all be returning, or if we’ll potentially see some new faces.
