The brilliant Neneh Cherry has announced she’ll be touring Australia in 2019, but the sad news is Perth is not on her itinerary.

Cherry has just released her acclaimed new album Broken Politics, which got a 5-star review in the October edition of OUTinPerth. The album touches on many topics including feminism, gun control and race.

The singer, whose long career includes hits like Buffalo Stance, Manchild, 7 Seconds and Woman, last played two shows in Perth as part of Perth Festival back in 2015.

If Perth fans want to see the singer this time round they’ll have to book a trip east to catch her in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Launceston or Brisbane.

Cherry will play two shows for the Sydney Festival at Carriageworks on Tuesday 15, and Wednesday 16 of January, on Friday 18 January you’ll find her at the The Gov in Adelaide, she’ll head to Launceston in Tasmania on Saturday 19 January and wrap up the tour at The Tivoli in Brisbane on Wednesday 23 January.

The singer’s decision to leave Perth out of her tour schedule follows an announcement yesterday that Rufus Wainwright would not include Perth on his next Australian tour.

Wainwright is heading down-under to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of his self-titled debut album, and its follow up 2001’s Poses.

The 1998 album included the songs Matinee Idol and April Fool, while the follow up includes favourites including Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk, Greek Song, One Man Guy and Grey Gardens.

Rufus will bring his All These Poses Tour to the Adelaide Festival on Friday 22 February, Sydney’s stunning Enmore Theatre on Tuesday 26 February, before playing two Melbourne shows at the esteemed Zoo Twilights series and Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday 23 and Monday 25 February respectively. The tour will finish at Canberra Theatre on Thursday 28th February.
