The artist’s functionless vessels are described as “asking more questions than they answer in a whimsical dialectic between form and lack of function.”

A recent trip to India has inspired her latest collection. Each piece begins with the solidarity of the ceramic foundation; its strength governs the shape of the crochet. O’Meehan compares her practice of crocheting to drawing with yarn as it follows the lines begun by the ceramic base.
Growing up on a farm in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, Holly spent her childhood sifting through her mother’s craft studio. Now based in Fremantle, Holly’s current art practice explores the gentle honesty of the hand made as well as examining the stereotypes of Craft versus Art in contemporary society.

Holly graduated in 2013 with a BA in Fine Art and Art & Design from Curtin University, Perth. She has since developed her own art practice, exhibiting work in several group shows, art awards and participating in several residences across Western Australia and India.

Her exhibition opens 12 January, 6-8pm at Paper Mountain in Northbridge. A free artist talk is being held 13 January 1-2pm, which will be followed by a three-hour artist workshop from 2-5pm. The exhibition will run until 28 January.
