New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has said that he disagrees with fellow Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry’s description of homosexuality.
Last week the Texas governor compared homosexuality to alcoholism and said people had a choice on whether they acted on their sexuality.
The conservative politician voiced his support for gay cure therapies arguing that people had a right to seek out treatment for their sexuality if they so desired.
Fellow Governor Chris Christie from New Jersey has voiced his disagreement.
“I disagree with him, and I don’t believe that’s an apt analogy,” Christie said of Perry’s alcoholism comparison.
He added: “Every governor and public official has to speak for themselves on these issues… I just spoke for myself.”
Christie is seen as a potential opponent to Perry for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Last year Chrisite passed legislation in New Jersey that outlawed offering reparitive therapy for sexuality to people under the aged of 18 in New Jersey.
