Colquhoun began his career as a dancer in the United Kingdom but took up arts management in the eighties after completing a degree at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

He has filled a variety of managerial roles within the arts sector during his career, including stints advising the state government on arts policy.

Colquhoun is currently the general manager of the Black Swan State Theatre Company and told Out in Perth his experience in the arts was a reason behind accepting the position.

“I have a passion for the arts and to have the opportunity to share this with the committee and the wider community is really wonderful,” he said.
