No Hope For Ugandan LGBT

There is little reprieve for LGBT rights in Uganda, with anti-gay Anglican Bishop Henry Luke Orombi being replaced by another conservative. Reverend Stanley Ntagali, has replaced Orombi as the new Archbishop of the Ugandan Anglican Church, aged 57.

Orombi has allegedly left his position due to his fanatical anti-gay viewpoints that have generated tension with members of the global Anglican Communion. Previously Orombi has campaigned extreme views that acts of homosexuality should be punishable by death, Orombi also supported the proposal of the Anti Homosexuality Bill.

Orombi entered his position in 2004 – at the height of internal friction regarding the Church’s stance on homosexuality. It is believed that although Rev Ntagili also fervently opposes gay rights, he will not approach the issue as aggressively as his predecessor.
