Olympic Spirit

It’s no Beijing but if you are looking for something different this summer, the Beach Olympics may be the right event to have a laugh and meet others from the community.

Outlook Fitness, a new group fitness company catering to Perth’s LGBT community is launching this evening of frolicsome fun on January 18.

Some of the events include beach volleyball, drag races, stiletto tossing, capture the flag races and beach sled competitions.
Organiser and Outlook Fitness owner Julia Hern said the event would be more of a social event than a fitness meet.

‘It’s more focused on fun; there won’t be anything hardcore, you won’t even break a sweat,’ Hern said.

‘They’ll be food and drinks provided with some music, bubbly and some competitions.’

The Beach Olympics is the flagship social event for Outlook Fitness, which was launched in October this year.

Hern began Outlook Fitness to tailor to the fitness needs of Perth’s LGBT community and said it offered much more than just group exercise.

‘People can feel comfortable coming and know that they are not going to be judged for what they wear, who they are and how they behave,’she said.

‘It’s also another social outlet for people who want to make gay friends outside of clubs or find it difficult to meet people.

‘People into fitness generally aren’t that interested in going out drinking all the time, they may not like to have late nights and go out drinking.’

Hern said the best thing about group fitness was the motivation and self-esteem people left with after a session.

‘Of course, you are going to lose some weight… build muscles, feel better and have more energy but the greatest thing is that people feel better about themselves,’ she said.

The Beach Olympics will be held on Tuesday January 18 at Floreat Beach from 6pm. For ticketes and more information, check out the Outlook Fitness website www.outlookfitness.com/special-events.
