Australia’s biggest festival of circular fashion is coming into its second year with an expanded program across Perth.
Circular Fashion Festival co-founder, Hazel Law says the Circular Fashion Festival aims to continue building momentum and encouraging Australians to shop sustainably throughout the year.
“Our debut Circular Fashion Festival diverted over 1000kg of textiles from landfill and helped to repair 298 items via The Great Global Mend with FabPatch.
“We didn’t stop there because this is not just a runway, it’s a revolution. The Circular Fashion Council has continued to take its Re:Fashion initiative around WA to facilitate clothes swaps and mending.
“This year, we are also exhibiting garments and runways from our Business of Circular Fashion Incubator, which is helping to propel the Australian Circular Fashion economy forward.
“Circular After Dark will be an exciting event at WA Museum Boola Bardip, putting fashion on centre stage for the evening celebrating arts and culture.”
The WA Museum Boola Bardip hosting a live fashion runway for the first time with Circular After Dark, which sees graduates of the inaugural Business of Circular Fashion Incubator exhibit showstopping couture at the WA Museum Boola Bardip’s first runway alongside Perth Pre-Loved luxury designer markets.
Visitors can explore the program of inspiring runways, markets and exhibitions from September to November across locations from Yagan Square and North Metro TAFE to PS Art Space.
WA Museum Director Engagement, Jason Fair, said fashion tells an important part of Western Australia’s story.
“It reflects who we are, how our communities have changed over time, and the many ways people express their identity, creativity and values.
“At the WA Museum, we are committed to sharing the many stories that shape Western Australia, and fashion is one of them. We’re delighted to partner with The Circular Fashion Festival to explore fashion, identity and sustainability through experiences such as the Circular After Dark runway and Luxury Designer Pre-Loved Markets.
“This exciting new partnership will transform WA Museum Boola Bardip in unexpected ways, offering visitors a fresh and memorable experience that celebrates fashion and sustainability.”
Festival visitors can experience innovative designs from North Metro TAFE students, mend clothes at the Great Global Mend and visit the RE: Fashion activation. Shoppers can enjoy the Perth Pre-loved Markets and Down to Earth Markets.
With support from Development WA and City of Perth, the Circular Fashion Festival aims to continue inspiring Australians to make sustainable fashion choices and prove you don’t need to sacrifice style – as the team say, fashion shouldn’t cost the earth.
