Rainbow KINection wins at Community Broadcasting Awards

Rainbow KINection, the weekly LGBTI radio show on Noongar Radio 100.9 has been named the Best New Radio Show at the 2018 Community Broadcasting Association Australia Awards. The show airs every Thursday night at 6pm.

The award recognise excellence in community broadcasting and are one of the highlights of the sector’s annual conference. The tree day long conference is being held at on the Gold Coast.

The station also took hope the Best Special Event Broadcast Award for their event Tribute to JB.

The team from Noongar Radio weren’t the only Perth community radio station celebrating. Long running Perth station RTRFM picked up three trophies.

Weekly linguistics program Talk the Talk was awarded Best Radio Program – talk. The weekly program started as a small segment on current affairs program The Mag, but has grown into an hour long program and internationally successful podcast.

Each week linguist Daniel Midely dives into the world of language with co-hosts Ben Ainslie, Kylie Sturgess and Hedvig Skirgård.

RTRFM also picked up awards for its Slightly Odway series. Each week a local Perth band drops into the Breakfast show and plays a tune from another local Perth band.

The segment takes its name from local band Jebediah’s debut album. When The Limbs took on the challenge recently they picked a tune from that Jebediah record, performing Harpoon.

RTRFM also picked up the Excellence in Digital Media award for their video series The View From Here. The web series sees local bands performing in interesting and unusual locations.

Vision Radio picked up the Excellence in Creative Audio award for The Tourist. Jason Health from Melbourne’s queer radio station JOY 94.9 picked up the Excellence in Music Presenting award.
