The words Hurricane and Lady are often tied together when it comes to forces of nature; in the case of Lady Leshurr, a force of nature is the only appropriate term that comes to mind.

Beginning her career in 2009 with the release of Unleshurr she eventually went viral on Youtube in 2016 when her Queen’s Speech series of freestyle raps broke her through to the mainstream and reached 50 million views. In her own words it brought her to a next level of audience exposure and allowed her to buy a house for her mum.

With an energy and stage presence that belies her petite size Ms Leshurr burst onto the stage to what can only be described as a rapturous response from the audience. Like a high performance sports car this lady starts from zero miles per hour and launches into a rapid fire delivery that hits maximum speed and doesn’t let up for the entire 90 minute set.

Few artists can engage with an audience and maintain the kind of high energy performance that she delivers that translates from internet sensation to a serious world class level of live act that most pop tartlets wish they could deliver.

With humour, style and pathos Leshurr had the audience in the palm of her hand and the high point came when she hauled the most enthusiastic members of the crowd up on stage. Each of these super fans knew every single one of her many, many words and she had them freestyling and twerking up a storm.

The love between audience and artist was a clear sign that this is an artist on the rise, not because of hype, celebrity baiting or novelty factor, but because of sheer talent.

She needs to be seen to be believed.
