SceneOUT April

Hello kids, mOther here! Yes, seems those dear old dears at OUTinPerth have given me some free reign here at the paper, and what better way to look after the little ones then to tell them where to go, what to do and how to do it! So, listen to your mOther because, after all, mOther knows best! So, April… here’s the lowdown:

Apparently, sport is something people do. Apparently. I wouldn’t know… the closest I get to a competitive sport is eBay. But for those who like to grunt, sweat or ‘feel the burn’, sport on the big screen can be quite an event. So much so The Paddo – or Paddington Ale House – over in Mount Hawthorn provide an entire, massively popular with the jock lesbian set, Sunday session to sport. Watch AFL, NRL, Super 14s and the English Premier Leauge on the big screen as acoustic act Tony & Sal plus The Wooden Elves play it live and loud.

It’s time to put your best frock forward at The Court Hotel every Wednesday night. Yes, Straight Guy For The Queer Eye is midweek madness at its most maniacal as Ivana Minge from The Beaufort Bitches collides with the louder than life Dee Luxe (her from the infamous How To Kick The Baby Drag days). The two hosting an amateur drag night sure to horrify as well as entertain. When some people will realise that they simply are a boy in a frock and not a drag queen we’ll never know (the term’s sea-horse ain’t it… and no Dee or Nuds, this ain’t in reference to you). Big tunes and bigger queens equals the biggest fun.

Not only are the Rock Chicks back at Connections Nightclub, doing the air guitar thing Friday midnight on April 4 and 11, but so too are The Krazy Krushgroove Kids. Led by ever glamorous The Giselle, these madcapped mayhem makers are sure to bring some life into CNC every Friday and Saturday. Be there to see who’s new!

Still at CNC, Saturday April 5 seems to be super big. Not only will Nigel Etherington be in the building, taking en masse 1400 photos of you, the punters, for a giant Red Bull Magic Eye Montage, but Death By Drag hits like a sea-horse in bad slap. Yes, talent time is back… Barbie Q hosts… Glamourpuss returns… baby drags suffer incredibly mean challenges, like trying not to look like sea-horses in bad slap!!! Big Brother by way of Survivor? Soooooft!

On to Wednesday April 9 and it’s time to get down with the Pride Women’s Sundowner. Set at the gorgeous Grapeskin Winebar, this night is $5 entry for Pride members, $8 normal, but free if you join Pride right there on the spot. And everybody knows Pride needs all the support it can get at present. Save some pennies for that raffle though! mOther’s feeling lucky tonight!

Come feed your freaks at mOther’s recommended event of the month, ZOO. Located at 243 William Street with entry via the back laneway, ZOO is for all you dress-up club kid kooky costume couture types. NOTE: While Zoo was originally scheduled to kick off on April 13, the launch has been postponed until May… don’t worry, it’s a-comin’ kids. More details soon, love mOther.

The Pride Professional Alliance meet at The Court Hotel on Wednesday April 16 at 6:30pm. It’s open to all members of the community, so come along and have some beers with some queers.

Get your fangs into some bear-able fun as The Bears step out on to The Terrace at Connections Nightclub on Friday April 18 at 7pm. Or, join in as they get into a little re-gay-lia with their ANZAC Tribute Uniform Party held at The Den on Friday April 25 from 9pm. Either way, there’s no hibernating for this lot… grrr argh.

Oh, and Uniform 2 hits Thursday April 24 at CNC. Yes, dress up in your brightest uniform for an ANZAC tribute which last year proved a mammoth success. For more information log on to www.myspace.com/connectionsnightclub and read those blogs!

Also on April 24, it’s time to get a little exposed at The Court Hotel as they strip it all off for yet another Exposed Fetish Party. Yes, get your freak on for a night of kink as DJs Nick Alexander and the super sultry Feminem spearhead an evening full of far-out fetish fun. Hit www.thecourt.com.au for all the ball-breaking news.

Perth’s underground secret electro showcase, China Horse, is all set to explode for another night sizzling with outstanding local talent. But it doesn’t happen until Friday May 23. Find out who’s playing by visiting China Horse at www.myspace.com/chinahorse and subscribing to their email. It’s free, fabulous and guarantees fun when China Horse Two finally comes!

So… there you go little ones. Now don some delightful disco threads, kick up those heels and get ready to spin yourselves out – yes, hurry along now, have some fun, cause some havoc, be little terriers and remember – do what your mOther told ya!
