In less than 5 weeks one of the world’s biggest superstars will make history when he performs in Australia’s Top End for the first time.
Today Sir Elton John dispelled the rumours and confirmed that he will play Darwin’s TIO Stadium on Saturday 17th May. Tickets for the unprecedented history-making concert event go on sale at 10am on Tuesday 8th April through Ticketek, online at www.ticketek.com.au or phonecharge on 132 849. The Darwin Entertainment Centre will be the only local outlet where people can purchase tickets in person. Patrons will also be able to buy online, over the phone or from Ticketek agencies across Australia.
Alongside today’s breaking news, promoter Chugg Entertainment announced concerts at Perth’s Members Equity Stadium on Saturday 10th May and a special one off show at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Monday 12th May to help celebrate the venue’s 25th Anniversary. This show also marks Sir Elton John’s record breaking 41st performance at the arena. Tickets for Perth and Sydney shows will be available from www.ticketmaster.com.au.
The hugely successful 2007 Rocket Man Solo Tour: A Knight Under the Stars saw over 100,000 tickets sold at 10 different locations both indoors and outdoors across Australia. Last year’s tour travelled across all of the East Coast States, Tasmania, South Australia and the ACT but the Northern Territory and Western Australia missed out – this year, thanks to the relentless rallying of fans, these were the first locations to be considered for the 2008 tour.
‘We’ve also been able to make good that we couldn’t incorporate a Perth show into the last run so this is great news for the fans on the West Coast. Elton loves Australia and we love that he keeps coming back and performing for the fans far and wide,’ said Michael Chugg of Chugg Entertainment.
The website received thousands of registrations from the Top End as well as a strong response from fans in Broome, which was also seriously considered in the tour run.
Regretfully, after careful consideration, it was decided that it was logistically impossible to include a performance in Broome this time around, despite the support from the local people and the greater West Australian community.
“We tried a lot of different options to make a Broome show possible. We received a great response online, the Government and local event boards were right behind us, it’s disappointing we couldn’t make it work. I’m grateful to everyone for their efforts and have to especially thank Broome Shire Council, WA Government, Tourism Board, Events Corp and of course, the great people of Broome and its surrounds. I hope we get Sir Elton to this beautiful part of Australia one day.†said Chugg.
While a Broome show will not take place, Chugg has worked hard in finalising the tour itinerary to schedule both the Perth and Darwin shows on a Saturday night to ensure as many fans as possible from out of town can make it along to enjoy these spectacular events.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see one of the world’s greatest entertainers, as he returns to Australia in full showman mode with his entire band.
