Sydney's Anglican Diocese reveals it's donated 1 million to 'No' campaign

The Archbishop of Sydney, Glen Davies, has revealed that the Anglican Diocese of Sydney has donated a million dollars to the ‘no’ campaign to assist in their fight against marriage equality.

The Archbishop announced the large contribution during his address to the 51st synod of the diocese on Monday afternoon and Buzzfeed News Australia were there to report the announcement.

Archbishop Davies said the diocese had been a founding member of the Coalition for Marriage alongside groups including the Australian Christian Lobby, The Marriage Alliance and the Catholic church.

The Archbishop defended the large contribution arguing the implications of allowing same sex couples to wed would have significant ramifications on society.

While neither campaign have been forthcoming with how much their campaigns are costing, the ‘No’ campaign has regularly claimed that it’s the underdog in a ‘David and Goliath’ battle.

QANTAS CEO Alan Joyce, has personally donated a million dollars to the Equality campaign.
