The Glammys- Pride WA's Community Service Awards

The Glammys have been conceived to recognise outstanding contributions made by people, organisations and businesses to further the aims of the GLBTQI community in seeking acceptance, equality and understanding.

These contributions may not be great events or even publicly acknowledged, and can be found amongst quiet achievers as well as in the business community.

People are best recognised by their peers and the people they serve, so nominations are being sought from the whole community to find worthy recipients for these awards.

Nominations close on Friday 7th August – see www.pridewa.asn for details of how to nominate.

The Glammys will be awarded at the Pride Homecoming Ball to be held on Saturday, August 22nd 2009 in the Riverside Ballroom at the Novotel Langley Plaza Hotel.

Each award has been very generously sponsored by an individual or organisation as noted below, and Pride WA will be presenting trophies to the winners.

The categories for 2009 are:

Best Community Group
Sponsored by WA Aids Council to the value of $500.
Which community group best supports and furthers the aims of the GLBTQI community in either a social, political or community service environment?

Outstanding Contribution by an Individual or a Couple
Sponsored by The Honourable Colin Beeck to the value of $250.
Many individuals and couples work tirelessly for the benefit of the GLBTQI community and go unrecognised. This is an opportunity to recognise the very important contribution made by ordinary people who are willing to go the extra mile.

Best Entertainer
Sponsored by Bevan Jack Marwick the Second to the value of $250.
We all enjoy great entertainment which takes a variety of forms. This could be an individual performer, a musical group, a performance company; a DJ or perhaps a public event. How have you best been entertained this year?

Best Gay or Gay Friendly Venue
Sponsored by Travelworld Inglewood to the value of $250.
There are ‘gay’ venues and ‘gay friendly’ venues in Perth.
Which one provides the best ambience and value for you?

Freedom Centre Youth Award for an Individual or Group
Sponsored by the WA Aids Council to the value of $500.
Youth are an important part of our community and often need more help in accepting who they are as individuals – often in a hostile environment,
Who or what organisation has helped our youth in this difficult journey?

Building Bridges Within or Between Communities
Sponsored by Connections Night Club to the value of $250.
Every community is made up of many parts – and none can survive on its own.
Who or what organisation has been instrumental in binding our community together or helping to gain acceptance and understanding by the wider community?

Have your say and help us to find the most worthy winners of the 2009 Glammys.
