This October, Mirabilis Collective will present a concert celebrating queer and disabled artists’ creative journeys.
Taking place at Tranby Hall in the Queen’s Building on Wednesday 14 October from 7pm, VIVID will feature music by queer composers and composers with lived experience of disability.
The program includes the world premiere of a new string quartet work by Rose Russell. Russell was recently announced as the recipient of the Eileen and Aubrey Wild Music Research Travel Scholarship.
Russell is currently in the first year of a PhD exploring the representation of transgender women in opera. Through analysis of existing works and the composition of two new operas, her research examines how creating transfeminine roles for lower voice types can expand opportunities for performers and contribute to more inclusive operatic storytelling.
The performance will also new music from Ritchell Lim, and music from 15 composers including Angie MacMahon, Chappell Roan, Nat Bartsch, Sally Whitwell, Sophia Mackson, Jessie Montgomery, Caroline Shaw and Laura Karpman.
There will be guest appearances from Zoe McGivern, Bourby L’Eclair, Ruth Klein Cook and Jessica Casey.
The performance will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A facilitated by Tenth Muse Initiative.
Mirabilis Collective is a Perth-based ensemble of women musicians dedicated to performing music by women. The ensemble celebrates creativity, connection and storytelling, bringing overlooked voices to the stage and building community through music.
