West Coast Blues & Roots – Best Lineup Yet

One, twice…now it’s time for the third instalment of artists for the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival.

After announcing the most comprehensive line-up of international Roots, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Reggae, Gospel and Soul talent ever to come to Western Australia, Sunset Events has added the queen of Aussie alt-country, Kasey Chambers, in her very first West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival appearance. Back with a new album, Chambers will come to WA for what will be a rare show in 2008/09 as she dedicates her time and energies to motherhood.

Joining Kasey Chambers on this very special announcement is none other than the WA debut of Canadian singer songwriter sensation, Hayley Sales. Only 20-years of-age, this mature songstress has spent the last 12 months serenading music critics and fans across North America. And now she finally comes to Australia for what will prove her mighty debut.

You may recognise the pedigree…two parts Midnight Oil, one part Backsliders and a whole lotta gravel. And we’re revving up for the Blues ‘n’ Roots debut of The Angry Tradesmen, featuring the very mighty Rob Hirst, Dom Turner and Martin Rotsey. It’s lightening, it’s thunder…it’s the blues like you’ve never heard it before.

Sunset Events are also honoured to welcome local Indigenous dance act Common Ground, as well other WA greats including National Campus Band Competition and now Sonicbids winners Will Stoker & The Embers, mighty songster Matt Gresham, perennial faves The Shinkickers, Latino funksters The Funkalleros and Breakthrough band competition winners the Sneaky Weasel Gang.

Darwin’s very own acclaimed act Worldfly will also make the trek south to the fifth annual West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival, completing the greatest array of talent to ever come to WA.

These acts greats join the rest of the lineup that includes such luminaries, as: John Fogerty, Buddy Guy, Ray Davies, Sinéad O’Connor, Don McLean, Eskimo Joe, Maceo Parker, Gotye, Ian Brown, Keb’ Mo’, KT Tunstall, Xavier Rudd, Ozomatli, The Cruel Sea, The Bellrays, Clare Bowditch And The Feeding Set, Angus & Julia Stone, Jason Mraz, O.A.R., Lior, Damien Dempsey, The Basics, Cat Power, Jools Holland & His Rhythm And Blues Orchestra, Vusi Mahlasela, Lee Ritenour, Patty Griffin, London Community Gospel Choir, G. Love & Special Sauce, The Beautiful Girls, Galactic, Salmonella Dub, Jeff Martin, Mia Dyson, Jeff Lang, Seasick Steve, The Audreys, Sugarland and Ivan Zar.

50 artists will make this the finest assembly of blues ‘n’ roots legends and newcomers ever to hit our shores over three stages at the idyllic Fremantle Esplanade Reserve – all handpicked for their respect and status in their genres and culminating in the ultimate Music Lover’s Weekend at Fremantle Esplanade Reserve on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.

Standard weekend tickets are $195 + booking fee and individual day tickets are also available for $125 + booking fee per day and available from www.sunsetevents.com.au or Ticketek on 132 849 or at www.ticketek.com.au. We encourage you to pay the Optional Green Fee for an extra $2, which will be used to offset your carbon emissions to and from the festival.

Or head to Live Clothing Stores, 78 Records, Mills, Planet Video, Trax Music (Mandurah), Blue 62 (Busselton), Session Surf Shop (Margaret River), Collins Music (Bunbury), Kalgoorlie Sounds, Geraldton CD Centre and Vibes (Albany). Given current touring ticket prices this is excellent value for money, whether you purchase a day or a weekend ticket.

VIP tickets are also available. Head to the website for more information.

All tickets are on-sale now and selling quickly.

The West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival is a licensed event and all patrons must be 18+ unless accompanied by a parent.

The fifth annual, West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival is supported by Triple J.
