There’s never a shortage of excitement in the world of Pride, and March was certainly no exception. We started the month with our Annual General Meeting and although a couple of dedicated volunteers made the decision to move on, a couple more joined the ranks, and we now have a committee of nine ready to take on a fantastic new year!
During our first regular meeting positions were allocated and this year Charles Denham and Sharlene Dixon will continue steering Pride in the right direction as Co-Presidents. Congratulations to both of them on their appointments. Kieran Bycroft will continue to be involved with the cultural festival and Teresa Teal will continue her great work with recruiting volunteers. A new addition to the committee, Matt Chant, will assist Teresa. Jason Chrisp will take on Marketing, Bevan Marwick will look after memberships and Wendy Houlahan will be working on events with me. I’ll also keep an eye on the books as Treasurer and round up sponsorships too.
At the start of every Pride year we come together and map out the year ahead. This year’s planning day will be held this weekend. Already hot on the agenda is this year’s theme, which will help entice expats back to Perth for the Homecoming Festival. Although the theme has been decided on, we are now faced with the task of integrating it into our many events. Community members with ideas about what they’d like to see in this year’s festival should email them to pride@pridewa.asn.au.
Our first event since the AGM was the Women’s Dance on Saturday the 28th of March at Loton Park. 137 Women attended the dance which was considered a success. Thanks to everyone who volunteered on the night and thanks to the punters who attended, we hope to bring you more Women’s events in 2009.
With the help of Q People, a locally owned recruitment and management consulting firm, we have appointed Karen Wertheimer as our new administration and grants officer. Karen will work for two and a half days a week and will provide a support function to Pride. This means our contact details will soon change so keep an eye on our Website for updated details. Our email address will remain the same though so please continue to contact us at pride@pridewa.asn.au with any queries. We have been able to appoint this person with the help of Connections Nightclub, who are assisting us with funding the position as part of an ongoing sponsorship arrangement with Pride WA. Thanks to Q People for donating their time and resources to Pride.
Speaking of Connections you will now receive an even bigger discount for entry to the club when showing your current Pride membership card. With 50% off the price of entry your Pride membership could pay for itself in no time! It’s another great reason to renew your memberships today by downloading the renewal form from www.pridewa.asn.au. If you were wondering where your new card is, they will be sent out this week, so sit tight.
