Your Pride season is coming

With the dates for this year’s events set and planning well under way, we are seeking the support and help of our members and friends. We are looking for around 60 volunteers for Fairday and 130 for the Parade, to help make the events the success they always are. And this year our volunteers get a choice between a free ticket to one of our after parade parties or a year’s free Pride membership. Our Fairday volunteers are asked to do a 2 hour shift, but if they can spare 4, we’ll give them not only a ticket for one of our after parade parties, but we’ll throw in a 12 month membership as a special thank you. Please contact Brian at pride@pridewa.asn.au if you’re interested.

This year’s Fairday, running from 11am at Russell Square, is the only way to start your Pride season. As well as two huge stages and heaps of entertainment, it’s also family friendly, with a dog show and sausage sizzle. So bring along your friends, your family and your dog for the only day that is guaranteed to start the Pride season with a bang. And don’t forget, Pride members get free entry.

Not a Pride member? Download the membership form from our website and start reaping the rewards. We have memberships ranging from individual to corporate, something to suit everyone. Making sure you get seen this Pride season is simple. With the rate card for the Guide and the participation pack for Fairday available on the website, getting seen has never been easier.

With the Parade coming up, it’s time to start thinking about ideas for your floats. The theme is ‘For Our Community’, so think – what does our community mean to you?

We’ve been thinking about what this year’s theme ‘For Our Community’, really means. This has involved consulting with ‘our’ community about what you actually want. Because of this, our Community Liaison has become increasingly active this year. Exciting developments include taking part in the Perth LGBTI Alliance and connecting with LGBTI workplace inclusion and marriage equality advocates.

Pride’s commitment to community has resulted in a hive of activity including meeting advocacy organizations, venue managers/owners and social groups. This year committee members have attended various community events such as: Outdance, Marriage Equality Workshops, South West Hoedown, ClubWest, Equal Love Rallies, GRAI AGM, StyleAID and many others.

2011 is the year to contact us with your ideas and let us know how Pride can support everyone in our community by connecting, supporting and promoting your group and events through our regular newsletters and various online media. Please send details to pride@pridewa.asn.au. We look forward to seeing you all out in the community.
