46 year old Michael Moore discovered the diagnosis in a note on his medical records after undergoing a physical from the Torrance Health Association’s Dr. Elaine Jones last year in April.

According to reports, Moore confronted Doctor Jones about the note and asked her to remove it. She allegedly defended her diagnosis, saying the medical community goes “back and Forth” over whether homosexuality is considered an illness.

Homosexuality was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 1973.

Moore said he was told the record was at one point deleted, only to later discover it was still there.

“It was infuriating. It was painful.” Moore said.

“I gave them chance after chance and this time I’m not going to be silent. My silence would condone this activity.”

“I don’t want any gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual ever to hear from a doctor that their normal and healthy sexuality is anything other than that.”

The suit against the institute claims that it “engaged in a pattern of deceit and medical record doctoring in an attempt to establish that they had earlier removed and retracted the defamatory content, when in fact they had not removed and retracted the defamatory content until the latter part of May 2014.”

The Torrance Health Association made a statement to NBC, saying that the diagnosis was recorded due to human error and was retracted once the patient brought it to their attention.
