Man arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot up gay bar in Charlie Kirk’s name

An Arizona man is under arrest on terrorism charges after he allegedly told police that he’d threated to shoot up a gay bar in Phoenix Arizona because he was angry over the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

Treven Michael Gokey was arrested on Wednesday 17th September by police after they conducted a welfare check on him. He allegedly called a crisis line and told police he was planning to cause an incident at nearby LGBTIQA+ venue Curisin’ 7th.

Gokey allegedly told police that he planned to be a “martyr” for Charlie Kirk and that he had been “trigged” by recent political events. In court documents Gokey allegedly said  “radical left violence breeds a far-right response” and that he wanted to “send a message” specifically to the far left.

He is also accused of making homophobic and transphobic treats during his call to police, and his statements alluded to harming the transgender community. The case was reported by local outlets 13 News and Fox 10.

Conservative influencer, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed during an appearance at Utah Valley University on September 10th.

In the wake of his killing President Trump said the “radical left” were responsible for a wave of political violence across the country. The President made his statement hours after the shooting, and before police had identified a suspect.

In the follow days 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested and charged over the murder. He faces the death penalty if convicted of the charges. Police are yet to declare a motive for the assassination, but have released details of a series of messages that Robinson allegedly sent to his room mate in the wake of the shooting.

They have also confirmed that Robinson was in a romantic relationship with his roommate who is transgender. They say the roommate was unaware of Robinson’s plans and has been cooperating with authorities.
