Uni Queers

Every so often a new year comes along… This event is celebrated with both enthusiasm and groaning as another academic year begins. For some of us that means cutting back the social life, but for freshman queer girls and boys and others it is a chance to get one. Across the land in our state’s universities student collectives are embracing the challenges that today’s queer youth face with solidarity, creativity and a lot of fun. LTGBQIQ meet WACCQN (Western Australian Cross Campus Queer Network).

At all major universities students are out and active, fighting for civil and social rights and having a riot of a time as well. Each campus now has a collective that represents the rights and challenges of being queer on campus, including cushy and love infested common rooms where students can find information about ‘the queer life’ and friendship with other queer students. All types of curious sexualities and questioning loins are welcomed and with diversity driving the secret gay chaos-engine, being out on campus has never been more accessible.

Some of us enjoy the perks of being out on campus, but for many of us finding a safe place to explore sexuality and identity is a real trick. The Queer departments around the universities help with a whole range of different needs from coming out of the closet to meeting friends from your own and other campuses at a variety of social and political events meant to raise the profile, presence and reality of sexual diversities at all of our state universities.

To meet the growing demands of the curious, compassionate community of queers in tertiary education CCQN and all departments regular organise social events such as interstate conferences, queer sports, genderfucking, political protests, video nights and competitions and collaborations to satisfy the need for a socialising, not just theorising about queer life and being out.

So if you’re bored, lonely, curious, kinky or particularly attractive, then get information about what we’re doing here and at your university Queer departments.
