Pride Hosts Inaugural Homecoming Ball

The GLBTIQ community and their supporters turned out in force and in all their finery on Saturday, August 22 for the inaugural Pride WA Homecoming Ball at the Novotel Langley Plaza.

Political and community leaders joined performers and business owners as they enjoyed a three-course meal, dancing, performances by Hit Factory and OutDance and the presentation of the much anticipated Glammy Awards.

‘Narelda Jacobs was an outstanding host for the evening; and our special guests The Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor both had a great time, staying until late,’ said Pride WA co-president, Charles Denham.

‘Personally I think the Ball filled a hole in the Perth GLBTIQ social scene as there is no other gay event of this calibre which allows people to dress up and enjoy a different atmosphere.’

Organisers say they have had positive feedback on the event and hope to be able to make the Pride Ball and the Glammy Awards permanent fixtures on the Pride calendar.

‘The Glammys present an opportunity to recognise contributions that individuals and groups make in Perth,’ said Pride WA Media Liaison and Events Coordinator, Andrew Baietta.

‘This is long overdue and we hope to continue providing this recognition in the future.’

‘Creative management should see the event become viable, now that we have better numbers to work on we are in a better position to work out a way to make a future Pride WA ball possible.’
