Liberal MPs Warren Entsch and Teresa Gambaro are expected to co-sponsor a cross party bill for marriage equality when federal parliament returns in August, according to a report from Sky News.

Joining Mr Entsch and Ms Gambaro on the bill, Labor’s Terri Butler and Independents Cathy McGowan and Andrew Wilkie. An as yet unnamed second representative for Labor will also sponsor the motion.

The Liberal Party have not yet announced whether a conscience vote will be allowed. Many members of parliament are sure to oppose the proposition, making a Liberal conscience vote the best chance at this stage for legislation to change.

According to Sky News, the bill will ensure that religious organisations will not be forced to marry same-sex couples.
