Learn to play tennis at Loton Park

Loton Park Tennis Club – Perth’s gay and lesbian tennis club – is offering a six-week tennis coaching course for beginners starting 2 February 2011. The course costs $120 and is open to everyone from the GLBT community.

“Tennis is a healthy way to meet people and have fun and while these coaching sessions won’t turn you into Serena Williams by week six they will help you to enjoy a good match.” said Club Captain Michael Atkinson.

“We had a terrific response to the courses we ran late last year. People who had never picked up a tennis racquet before are now regular players while others who hadn’t played for years have rediscovered and improved old skills. The coaching course will run on Tuesday evenings starting at 6pm.”

Loton Park Tennis Club will also host an Australia Day party on 26 January and everyone is invited.

“We are opening our clubhouse to the gay and lesbian community on Australia Day,” said Club President Doug Kirkwood. “Members of the public can join in the fun for $15 from 1pm or $7 from 3pm. There will be live DJs from 6pm when we’ll sit back and enjoy the skyworks show. Drinks will be sold at club prices and entry is free.”

Loton Park is Australia’s only dedicated gay and lesbian tennis club. The club has over 80 members and welcomes beginners as well as experienced players. There are reduced membership fees for under 25s.

Social tennis games are held every Saturday from 1pm and every Wednesday from 5pm during January and February. The general public are welcome to play alongside and against members for just $15 from 1pm or $7 from 3pm on Saturday and $5 on Wednesday (free if you played the Saturday before).
