Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil's Lady Chablis dies

Lady Chablis, a transgender woman who found fame after she was imortalised in the book ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’ has died aged 59.

Chablis who performed drag in gay clubs in Savannah, Georgia, was featured in John Berendt’s best selling book that described many eccentric characters. When Clint Eastwood turned the book into a film starring John Cusack and Kevin Spacey.

In the film Chablis played herself, making her famous across the world. Since the film came out in 1997 Chablis had made numerous TV appearances and was a popular performer at Pride festivals in the US.

The performer passed away last week, pneumonia was stated as her cause of death.
