Every week of last year, 20 new cases of HIV were recorded in Australia. The ZERO project is inspired by striving to reduce that number to zero.

“Zero new infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths,” WAAC stated in a press release.

The WA AIDS Council have invited 20 artists from Western Australia and across the country to participate in the project, including local artists Daevid Anderson, Virginia Ward, Paul Kaptein, Jo Darvall and Deborah Elkes.

Each artist has been asked to reflect on their own understand of the ZERO concept, to be explored through their chosen medium. Featured artists will be presenting works of sculpture, painting, prints and wearable art.

Artistic Director of PS Art Space Tom Mùller says they are thrilled to be collaborating with the WA AIDS Council.

“This diverse collections of works span a broad range of artistic disciplines which explore the meaning and reading associated with the number zero, from both a mythological perspective and as a modern day concept,”

All works exhibited for the event will be available for sale, with proceeds divided between the artist and the WA AIDS Council.

ZERO will have a special launch event on World AIDS Day (December 1st) from 6:30pm at PS Art Space in Fremantle.

The exhibition will continue until Sunday December 4th from 10am – 5pm daily. For tickets or more information, head to WAAIDS.com
