Leveson

Police are searching bush land south of Sydney for the body of missing Sydney man Matthew Leveson. The 20 year old was last seen on September 23rd, 2007.

It is believed Leveson’s partner Michael Atkins has lead them to a specific location in a national park.

Leveson was last seen leaving the ARQ nightclub with Atkins in 2007. His body has never been found.

Atkins was acquitted of Leveson’s murder in 2009, during the trial he exercised his right to not testify.

Last week Atkins was compelled to give evidence at a Colonial Inquiry into Leveson’s disappearance.

Over the last week Atkins has faced tough questioning about his movements after the pair were last seen together, and evidence that he purchased a mattock – a pick-axe style digging tool – and duct tape the day after his partner’s disappearance.

Atkins was due to resume giving a sixth day of evidence at the inquiry this morning but the inquest has been adjourned.

The coroner has given Atkins immunity from prosecution so that his evidence can not later be used against him.

Leveson’s parents had hoped that the inquiry would lead to the location of their son’s body.

The national park where police are no searching for Matthew Leveson’s body is a short distance from where the couple lived at the time of his disappearance.
